This faithfully restyled version of Nat King Cole's classic was released in the hopes of hitting the coveted Christmas number one spot.  However, the Pet Shop Boys were also eying up that spot with Always On My Mind, so to halt it's progress to the top, Parlophone re-released Cole's original single to slow down Astley's sales.

The result, Astley was lodged at number 2 in the UK charts the week of Christmas 1987, and the Pet Shop Boys hit Number One. The single was subsequently flipped to promote My Arms Keep Missing You.
